How it works

The conversation begins before you meet.

Listen Deeply turns recurring conversations into a leadership listening system by creating continuity before, during and after every conversation.

The journey

Five stages, every round.

0101

Prepare

The participant completes their reflection before the conversation, in their own words. Fragments are fine.
0202

Notice

The facilitator arrives having read:

  • the current response
  • previous conversations
  • existing commitments
  • relevant longitudinal patterns
0303

Listen

The conversation happens. The purpose is understanding, not solving.
0404

Capture

Important context, agreements, commitments and follow-up are preserved together.
0505

Continue

The next conversation starts where the last conversation ended.

Continuity

One professional story, not disconnected forms.

  1. January

    First conversation. Two commitments agreed.

  2. March

One commitment carried forward, one closed.

  3. May

Confidence described differently. New theme emerging.

  4. Next round

Begins where the last conversation ended.

The record preserves

  • Participant reflections
  • Shared summaries
  • Commitments
  • Agreements
  • Follow-up
  • Themes over time

Questions

Questions provide structure. Listening creates the conversation.

Organisations can

  • Start with the canonical PWC question set
  • Edit questions
  • Add questions
  • Remove questions
  • Reorder questions
  • Choose response types

Versioning, plainly

Question sets are versioned. Changing a question changes what will be asked next — it does not rewrite history. Every past conversation stays attached to the questions that were actually asked at the time, so longitudinal comparison remains honest.

The facilitator experience

One question has the room.

0202

What has happened with the steps in your development plan?

What they wrote

Notes for this question

Possible commitment detected — accept or dismiss

Insights

This theme has appeared across the last four conversations.

The concern remains, but the description has changed.

One commitment from March is still open.

  • One question at a time
  • The participant's answer visible
  • Historical insights
  • Questions to explore
  • Notes held against the question
  • Agreement detection
  • Synthesis of the shared record

Intelligence

History matters.

When it is useful, the system considers the participant’s entire authorised conversation history. It may identify:

Recurring themes

Changes over several rounds

Unresolved commitments

Shifts in language

Emerging strengths

Patterns worth revisiting

AI helps the facilitator notice. The human conversation creates understanding.

The wider system

The system is bigger than the meeting.

The conversation is personal.

The record creates continuity.

The round creates pattern recognition.

The leadership review creates organisational understanding.

That is what turns recurring conversations into a leadership listening system.
